In The Meadows: Lankum, Mogwai + more

We are delighted to announce several new additions to our inaugural In The Meadows festival.

Joining the bill are MERCURY REV, RACHAEL LAVELLE, TARA CLERKIN TRIO, MOHAMMAH SYFKAN, ANDY THE DOORBUM, ANA PALINDROME & CORMAC BEGLEY.

In The Meadows is a brand new one-day event in the heart of Dublin City Centre, on the grounds of the Irish Museum of Modern Art. It will take place on Saturday, June 08th, 2024, headlined and co-curated by mercury-nominated Irish band LANKUM who will perform their biggest show on home soil to date, and one of the only chances to see the band in Dublin in 2024. Among the other artists featured are MOGWAI, BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD, JOHN FRANCIS FLYNN & THIS IS THE KIT.

Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster Ireland & usual outlets priced from €59.35 including booking fee, plus service charge.

Dublin four-piece LANKUM (brothers Ian and Daragh Lynch, Cormac MacDiarmada, and Radie Peat) have gained worldwide acclaim for their first three albums and captivating, euphoric live performances. Their fourth album “False Lankum” has been universally heralded, reaching no.2 in the Official Irish Album Charts on release, receiving a Mercury Prize nomination and significantly eclipsing the success of their previous album, the Choice Award winning, “The Livelong Day”. The record heralds a new stage in the metamorphosis of the band into a modern-day powerhouse, drawing on traditional and primitive methods to create bold and singular music that transcends its folk roots: an entrancing, widescreen sound incorporating experimental overtones and rumbling drones wedded with classic songwriting, close vocal harmonies, and timeless narratives. Their live show has evolved into a deeply moving collective experience, with the band performing together as though they are a single lung: sounds expand and collapse from indistinguishable mouths, lungs, fingers, keys, and feet, while a wall of amp stacks push the intensity of the show to new levels. This is their only Dublin show for 2024.

“This may be modern Folk Music’s own OK Computer” MOJO

UNCUT ALBUM OF THE YEAR

LOUD AND QUIET ALBUM OF THE YEAR

MOJO ALBUMS OF THE YEAR

ROUGH TRADE SHOPS ALBUMS OF THE YEAR

With near-mythological cult status and two decades of noise-making under their belts, MOGWAI are sure to enthrall the RHK audience. The Scottish post-rock purveyors are still at the top of their game, inviting their audiences on a journey through their wall of sound. No doubt their set will feature tracks from Mogwai’s 2021 number-one record, “As The Love Continues”, as well as classic Mogwai tracks from their innovative career.

BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD have returned with their second album, “Ants From Up There”, released on Ninja Tune. Following on almost exactly a year to the day from the release of their acclaimed debut “For the First Time”, the band have harnessed the momentum from that record and run full pelt into their second, with “Ants From Up There” managing to strike a skillful balance between feeling like a bold stylistic overhaul of what came before, as well as a natural progression.

Singer and multi-instrumentalist JOHN FRANCIS FLYNN whose work centers around traditional and folk. A musician in demand, John has recorded with artists such as Lankum and Ye Vagabonds. His incredibly moving debut album ‘I Would Not Live Always’ received stunning reviews. He has won Best Folk Artist at the RTE Folk Awards.

Last but not least, the hypnotic twang and sparse folk of THIS IS THE KIT. This Is The Kit, the nom de plume of Kate Stables, has been in existence since the 00s when Kate moved to Bristol and started playing and collaborating with local musicians. Now four albums in, and based in Paris, the story of This Is The Kit is itself one of time and change and listeners. It has carried Kate Stables from Winchester to Bristol to Paris, across tours and festivals, and the admiration of critics and her peers.

Jorja Smith

Jorja Smith makes her long-awaited Belfast debut as part of her “Falling or Flying” tour on the 3rd August 2024 in Ulster Hall. Tickets go on sale this Friday, 22nd March at 9AM.

Still only 26 years old, Jorja has been making waves in the music world for close to a decade. Hailing from Walsall in the West Midlands, she has already won a host of awards, including two BRIT awards for Rising Star in 2018, and Best British Female Solo Artist in 2019, as well as a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2019. She has collaborated with a number of international stars including Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Stormzy, Burna Boy & more.

Despite this success, Smith has often struggled with overwhelming pressure in the public eye. Her latest album, "Falling or Flying," symbolises this struggle and delves into her journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Working with her old friends DAMEDAME*, it’s a sonically vast record – sometimes sleek and shiny R&B, sometimes vibey and heated UK funky, elsewhere intense and raw alternative. Lyrically, she delves into relationships – friendships, romances, the press, the music industry; but mainly, the one she has with herself.

Barry Can't Swim at Vicar Street (SOLD OUT)

Just a few days after the release of Barry Can’t Swim’s long-awaited debut album ‘When Will We Land?’ - released Friday 20th October on Ninja Tune - Barry announces an impressive 2024 headline world tour. Kicking off at the start of February with stops across North America, before a string of UK and EU live dates including Vicar Street on Friday, March 15th.

‘When Will We Land?’ marks the Edinburgh-born artist’s broadest and most diverse project yet, the 11-track project moves from deep house to jazz, from ambiance to the percussive charge of afrobeat. It’s all held together by his singular sense of purpose and that trademark vivacity; deftly finessed, it’s an album that works as a form of musical autobiography.

The new album and today's tour announcement arrive hot on the heels of a momentous few months for Barry with stand-out DJ sets at this year's Glastonbury, an already lauded Boiler Room performance at FLY Open Air festival, a Mahogany session and high profile shows across the world (Amnesia in Ibiza alongside Kerri Chandler, Honey Dijon and Nina Kraviz). Barry also recently performed a stand-out set at Warehouse Project ‘Boiler Room Presents’ to a packed out room alongside Overmono, DJ EZ, Casisdead and Moodymann, played Portola festival to a huge crowd, played multiple sold-out headline shows and supported Ben Böhmer in New York, LA and Chicago.

The Edinburgh-born musician caught attention with a series of releases in 2020, before signing to Ninja Tune imprint Technicolour for his sensational 2022 EP ‘More Content’ (which has amassed over 20 million streams to date) and ‘Amor Fati’ (35 million to date). To add to this Billboard named him as one of their 10 Dance Artists To Watch, while influential voices such as The Blessed Madonna and Annie Mac are huge fans. More recently, his newest single “Always Get Through To You” was Clara Amfo’s Hottest Record.

‘When Will We Land?’ is out now on Ninja Tune.

Tickets go on general sale Friday, October 27th at 10 am via Ticketmaster.ie

"Good Lies' is setting aside Overmono from the rest.

The epitome of 2023 sound, the album breathes a continuously dynamic aura" - CLASH

“There’s something about stepping back into the furious belly of this beast where the low bells chime around the parish, where time is swallowed and years slip by, this place where most of my hearing went in the sound of working it out from soaring angst to occasional pride into unmoored middle age. The songs grow too and change their meaning, till it all collapses together into the glorious bonfire that is The Frames…”  Glen Hansard

“A significant birthday should be celebrated. 2020 will mark The Frames’ 30th journey around the Sun. Most of that time has been spent travelling around the World, in and in celebration of, music. Where better to celebrate? One night in Dublin!  Come join us!”    Colm Mac Con Iomaire

Acknowledged as one of Ireland’s most successful domestic music acts of their generation, The Frames career spans three decades as they celebrate 30 years.

They released their first album Another Love Song in 1992 and, over nearly a decade, bounced through various well-documented record deals and band line-ups releasing consistently excellent albums (Fitzcarraldo and Dance The Devil) along the way in spite of it. Finally, as the new millennium appeared, the band shook themselves free of outside influences, beginning work on For The Birds, which they released on their own Plateau label in March 2001.

Two years later, after constant touring and an ever-rising fan base, the band released their live opus Set List. It became the first of their albums to début in the Irish Album Charts at No 1 in May 2003. They continued with their relentless touring schedule around the world, signed an international record deal with the Anti record label and found time to record and release their 5th studio album.

Following hot on the heels of a monumental sold-out open-air show in front of nearly 20,000 at Dublin’s Marlay Park, Burn The Maps was released in September 2004. It went straight to No 1 at home in Ireland and became a long-term fixture in the Irish Charts in spite of the band having to spend most of their time away on tour supporting its release worldwide in 2005.

The Frames finished up 2005 with a sold-out gig in Dublin’s Point Theatre and meanwhile in the U.S. Burn The Maps finished at No 5 in the New York Times end of year Top 10 releases.

Indulging in a spot of moonlighting in March 2006, frontman Glen Hansard released a universally acclaimed collaborative Swell Season album and tour with Czech singer/pianist/composer Marketa Irglova. The film Once followed in 2007 and the Best Original Song Oscar for that year went to Glen and Mar for the song “Falling Slowly”.

The Frames released their 6th studio album The Cost on Plateau in Ireland on September 2006. It went straight into the album charts at No 2 and was the springboard for a solid year of international touring, which culminated in a Christmas show in Ireland with Snow Patrol and a headline show to ring in the New Year.

After some time away from playing live, the band returned in 2010 to mark their 20-year anniversary with a headline slot at The Electric Picnic.  They also played a string of sold-out shows in the US and Europe before finishing the year with a run around Dublin in The Olympia, Vicar Street, and Whelans.  They also reconvened to mark the 25-year milestone with 3 sold-out shows at the Iveagh Gardens and Cork Marquee.

A Unique Festival Film Celebrating The Heart of Music And Arts In Ireland Today

** SATURDAY, 19 DECEMBER - PREMIERING 20:00 **

Raising awareness and funds for Jigsaw youth mental health charity

Featuring Live Performances And Interviews With Over 20 Irish Artists

Aby Coulibaly * Adam Mohammed * Alex Gough * Blindboy * Felispeaks * GAFF * Gemma Dunleavy * Jafaris * James Vincent McMorrow * Jessie Thompson * Liam Ó Maonlaí * Mango X MathMan * Monjola * Nicole Flattery * Panti * Pillow Queens * R.Kitt * Saint Sister & Lisa Hannigan* shiv * Sorcha Richardson * + more to be announced

The Festival of Now is a brand new film, which showcases a variety of Ireland’s best musicians, poets and performers, featuring performances plus interview pieces focused on the collective experience of the past year and delving into the importance of music and art for our mental health. To this end, we are also raising funds for Jigsaw, youth and mental health charity (more details below).

Where? Since we can’t experience and celebrate music in the same way,  we’ll bring you unique performances from some iconic venues. We’ll head right into the heart of the city to the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham, the home of IMMA, the Irish Museum of Modern Art.  As well being one of the most spectacular live concert venues - hosting the likes of Kraftwerk, Iggy Pop, Nick Cave & his Bad Seeds, Blur and more, it has also been home to our very own Forbidden Fruit Festival for over a decade. We’ll then take you to the halls of the Royal Dublin Society in Ballsbridge, a venue steeped in history, where in recent years we have hosted our winter festival, Metropolis. We’ll head to the basement of Wigwam (previously known as The Twisted Pepper), and settle in for last orders in Grogan’s infamous lounge. There’s many an artist who has pulled up a stool to the castle’s round table and settled in for the evening - you can do the same!

What of the artists? We are so excited to be able to announce that we have over 20 different artists performing and being interviewed. Our line up includes both artists who are well known and artists who will be making debut performances. We can’t wait to reveal some thrilling performances and to dive into the topic of the value and benefit of the arts on mental health.

Now more than ever is the time to focus on that value and to nurture and encourage our amazing arts scene. We’ll hear from the likes of Blindboy. Gemma Dunleavy, James Vincent McMorrow, Panti and Pillow Queens. Catch some amazing new artists like Aby Coulibaly, Monjola, GAFF and Adam Mohammed who will be making their festival debuts in this very unique way.

Who’s behind it? The film has been curated and promoted by POD, Irish independent festival and concert curators, promoters and producers. POD have been promoting and running shows for over 25 years in Ireland, with seminal performances in historical and unique locations. We extend our very special thanks to the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht Sport and Media who part-funded this project as a part of the Live Performance Support Scheme. Tá an tionscadal seo páirt-mhaoinithe ag An Roinn Turasóireachta, Cultúir, Oidhreachta, Ealoíon, Gaeltachta, Spóirt agus Meán ón Scéim Cúnta maidir le Taibhléiriú Beo. The making of this movie has provided crucial employment opportunities for Irish artists, crew, suppliers and our family of event specialists many of who have been without work since March.

The film is being co-produced by our good friends at Collective Films, who have worked closely with us on All Together Now and Forbidden Fruit over the last three years. They have also recently produced the likes of Fontaines Live from A Night at Montrose, ''Origins: The Story of Irish Hip-Hop', to name a few...

Where can I check it out? The film will premiere on Saturday, 19 December at 20:00.  Register your email on the website here www.pod.ie/festival-of-now and you’ll receive a link to view the documentary.

We’re raising money too! Jigsaw is the National Centre for youth mental health and they believe in an Ireland where every young person’s mental health is valued and supported. They offer a listening ear, and give advice and support to young people aged 12-25 years old. According to their recent research, the MyWorldSurvey, the top 2 coping strategies for adolescents are enjoying music (54%) and friends (56%). While you’re enjoying some live music from some of Ireland’s best artists, we encourage you to donate what you can to Jigsaw - from the price of a pint to the price of a concert ticket, all funds will be gratefully received
